The 21-year-old Brisbane Broncos fullback has revealed that his young daughter, Leila, has been the driving force behind his transformation both on and off the field. As Walsh continues to shine in what has been a career-best 2023 season, his emotional connection to fatherhood has given fans a deeper glimpse into the man behind the superstar athlete.
A Father’s Motivation
Ahead of the Broncos’ preliminary final clash against the New Zealand Warriors, Walsh broke down in tears while speaking about the impact his two-year-old daughter has had on his life.
“She has been awesome for me. She calms me down,” Walsh said. “When I’m in the Broncos facility, I’m the footy player. But when I step out and see my little one and my family, I’m dad.”
The young father explained that being with Leila helps him switch off from the high-pressure world of professional rugby. “It’s pretty awesome. I’m still so young, but if it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t be in this position,” he said. “She’s pretty awesome—I get emotional about it.”
From Controversy to Maturity
Walsh’s journey this year hasn’t been without its challenges. His passion and fiery nature once landed him in hot water, including a three-game suspension for an outburst at referee Chris Butler. However, Walsh has since taken accountability, sought help from a sports psychologist, and shown remarkable growth both as an athlete and as a person.
“I want to be the best version of myself on and off the field,” he said. “I’ve got awesome people around me who keep me in line. I just want to stay disciplined, humble, and of value to my team.”

“Three or four days before the Storm game, I was just stressing,” Walsh said. “Having her around brings everything back to reality. She keeps me grounded too.”
